The best things said about it
I also really recommend, I mean this is an obvious answer, but The Iliad, because Achilles is such a different type of hero.
So the Iliad, for instance, is full of larger than life heroes and Greek myths are full of monsters, things that stand out in our minds because in a world in which everything can so easily be forgotten, the memorable is incredibly important.
To read The Iliad and the Odyssey and to learn from them, to learn with them, is not to learn what other people have said about it, it's for you to uncover what the text means, what it says to you, what its insights are.
Plagues are plagues are in the bible they're in homer's iliad one of the canonical works of western fiction begins with a plague they're in shakespeare they're in cervantes.
Nicholas Christakis StarTalk Radio · Jan 2022 So the analogy here would be to uh heinrich schleioman who was a gentleman in 1871 who set out to find the lost city of troy with a shovel under his arm and a copy of the iliad under the other arm.
You can also go back to the Iliad and read another case where sunk cost fallacy dominated strictly rational decision making and only divine intervention could ultimately lead to a good outcome for the attacker and even then maybe not such a great outcome all things considered.

Why people recommend it
Homer's ancient epic poem The Iliad chronicles the final weeks of the Trojan War and the devastating wrath of the Greek warrior Achilles. The classic work garnered high praise from various podcast guests, including Madeline Miller, who recommended on The Book Review that readers begin with The Iliad to fully understand the background of The Odyssey and to appreciate Achilles as a uniquely complex type of hero. Dr. Gabor Maté shared on This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von that he consistently gravitates toward timeless classics like Homer's Trojan War epic. Evy Poumpouras utilized the poem on The Mel Robbins Podcast to share an ancient Greek quote illustrating the strategic value of observing opponents rather than simply listening to them, while Joumana Khatib highlighted a fresh translation of the epic by Emily Wilson on The Book Review. Additionally, Claudia Hauer explained on EconTalk why military cadets should confront the realities of war through the text's enduring metaphors, and Robert Evans humorously praised the book on Behind the Bastards, contrasting it with lesser ancient works. Finally, Martin Seligman analyzed the text on Modern Wisdom to demonstrate the historical evolution of human agency from Homeric heroes to later figures.
