Charlie Kirk (1993–2025) founded Turning Point USA at 18, and he spent the rest of his life doing what he loved most: talking with young people about ideas. He built it into one of the largest conservative youth organizations in America. He hosted The Charlie Kirk Show and wrote books including The MAGA Doctrine and The College Scam. He was best known for setting up a table on a college campus and inviting anyone who disagreed with him to come and argue it out. He was doing exactly that at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, when he was shot and killed. He was 31, and he left behind his wife, Erika, and their two young children. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom after his death.
Kirk was a reader, and he pushed his audience to be readers too. On The Tucker Carlson Show he told listeners to turn off the weekend's ninth football game and pick up The Gulag Archipelago, 1984 or Brave New World instead, because an informed population is the one that power fears. He named Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning among the books that shaped him most. He also credited Friedrich Hayek's The Road to Serfdom with his early turn toward free-market thinking.
