One of the books that I have read in the past two years that has impacted me considerably and that I consider to be absolutely exquisite in its writing and in its power and it in its message is the nickelbys by Coulson Whitehead that is one of the best books I've ever read.

The best things said about it
Raml Ross is an artist a photographer and a filmmaker and his latest work nickelbys is an adaptation of Coulson whiteheads Pulitzer Prize winning novel the book and the movie both are about a pair of black boys wood and Turner who find themselves in a vicious reform school in 1960s Jim Crow South.
I think so you know Coulson white hit has written across genre he's written all different types of books and and there are many of his books that are more um stylistically ornate they're sort of postmodern you know with the underground railroads certainly and then with nickel boy he he really paired it back you know when he was.
You had written these two beautiful books the Underground Railroad and the nickel boys they were claimed but they were heavy and then you followed that up by zagging into this colorful funny Lively thrilling Heist novel.
The Nickel Boys just seemed like the best followup for me intellectually after The Underground Railroad.
It came out this year, that was very good, very dark, but very good.

Why people recommend it
The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead is a Pulitzer Prize-winning historical novel depicting the brutal abuses suffered by teenage boys at a reform school in the Jim Crow-era American South. Alejandro Mayorkas strongly recommended the book on The Ezra Klein Show, calling it one of the most powerful and exquisitely written books he had ever read. On The Book Review, Gilbert Cruz and filmmaker RaMell Ross discussed the novel as the source material for a visual film adaptation, analyzing Whitehead's transition from postmodern storytelling to a more stripped-down, direct prose style. Pamela Paul also hosted segments on the same podcast discussing Whitehead's bibliography, frequently contrasting the heavy, devastating subject matter of The Nickel Boys and The Underground Railroad with his lighter, more playful subsequent crime fiction. Colson Whitehead himself appeared on the podcast to reflect on writing the novel, explaining that following up such harrowing subject matter with a comedic heist novel offered a welcome intellectual relief and a chance to return to a sense of play.
