When you first said Pig Earth I think I was like oh wow I've never read this I have no no idea how we're going to transition from what you're reading to what I'm reading but um the themes sound really resonant I'm reading that's my first Octavia Butler book it's called wild seed and it's in a tetrology.
The best things said about it
Um lately I've been reading um Octavia Butler cuz I embarrassed to say I hadn't read Octavia Butler before. So I just read Wild Seed and Kindred.
Why people recommend it
Wild Seed by Octavia E. Butler is a sweeping science fiction novel that serves as part of a tetralogy focusing on immortal shapeshifters and a vast, multi-generational struggle. The book has drawn attention and praise from notable cultural figures across different media platforms. On The Book Review podcast, Lauren Christensen discussed the book while sharing her reading choices, noting that she was diving into her very first Octavia Butler novel and remarking on how resonant the thematic elements felt to her. Similarly, actor Elliot Page mentioned the title during an appearance on On Purpose with Jay Shetty. Page admitted that he was somewhat embarrassed not to have discovered Butler's work earlier in life, explaining that he had recently read both Wild Seed and Kindred as part of his literary exploration. Listeners and readers frequently encounter Wild Seed through such recommendations when looking for foundational speculative fiction that tackles deep themes of power, survival, and human connection across centuries.
