Why people recommend it
The Kingdom of God Is Within You by Leo Tolstoy is a profound philosophical work arguing for Christian anarchism, pacifism, and the absolute rejection of violence and warfare. On The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast, Jordan Peterson discussed the book, sharing that it had a fairly major personal impact on him and noting that the author wrote several religiously oriented texts. Chris Carr referenced the work on Timcast IRL, describing it as the cornerstone for anarcho-Christian thought, particularly highlighting its core principles of non-resistance. Furthermore, Duncan Trussell brought up Tolstoy's book on The Joe Rogan Experience to illustrate the author's central argument that true Christianity is fundamentally incompatible with warfare, asserting that a Christian cannot kill under any circumstances. Across these different podcast episodes, speakers underscored the enduring relevance of the author's radical pacifist philosophy, highlighting how the text challenges conventional state authority and calls for a deeply internalized, non-violent adherence to spiritual principles.
