The best things said about it
The book Starship Troopers is a largely pro-war exploration of militarism using a science fiction setting.
I actually really like the idea of a Civil Service Corp going back to Starship Troopers you know everybody memes on the movie but the book is serious.
In the book version of Starship Troopers service is anything meant to serve your fellow man most being government services like like mail road construction etc.
It depicts a society in which you have to put in two years of military service for the right to vote or hold office still have other basic rights though.
You can even go back to Robert Heinen's 1959 novel Starship Troopers and that was really the concept behind the mobile infantry.
Palmer Luckey The Shawn Ryan Show · Feb 2025 The accusation on the book and the movie is that it's a fascist book a movie.

Why people recommend it
Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein is a classic science fiction novel exploring militarism, civic duty, and the complex philosophical distinction between citizens and civilians. The book continues to spark intense discussion among military veterans, futurists, and podcast hosts. On The Shawn Ryan Show, AJ Pasciuti recommended the novel, highlighting how it examines the vital relationship between public service and political franchise. Palmer Luckey also referenced Heinlein's 1959 ideas on the same show while discussing science fiction influences on modern military technology and exoskeletons. Meanwhile, on Behind the Bastards and The Shawn Ryan Show, hosts and guests analyzed the novel as a largely pro-war exploration of militaristic society, noting its famous premise that service guarantees citizenship. Commentators like Tim Pool and various callers on Timcast IRL have similarly used Heinlein's framework to debate contemporary political philosophies and societal structures. Whether praised for its imaginative world-building or critiqued for its political ideology, the novel remains a perennial flashpoint for conversations regarding duty, governance, and the ethics of state power.
