The best things said about it
If you haven't read it I think everyone should read doom by frank herbert it's just one of the best worlds building fiction books of all time.
Dune by Frank Herbert was really pivotal for me and I think you can see the Echoes of that in my first Trilogy in terms of this kind of teenage Messiah.
Literally Frank Herbert's Dune is based on a regime change in Iran.
I remember I've been watching some wonderful I you know, I'm so excited to watch Dune because I remember reading That was one of You know those books you read in high school that kind of changed the way you look at things and like illuminated you to stuff? That Dune was one of those books. You know, I thought.
Things like Dune, as Sean pointed out, it's world-building. It's creating a world; it's creating a whole thing that's so hard to get right.

Why people recommend it
Dune by Frank Herbert is a landmark science fiction masterpiece set on the desert planet Arrakis that explores complex themes of empire, religion, and resource control. A guest on Timcast IRL argued that the novel is fundamentally based on historical regime change and oil extraction in Iran, drawing parallels between spice control and geopolitical conflicts. Leigh Bardugo shared on The Book Review that the book was pivotal to her development as a writer and heavily influenced her own work with its teenage Messiah trope, while Lex Fridman quoted lines from the novel during an episode sign-off. Tim Ferriss recommended the first book on Modern Wisdom as essential reading for studying leadership, and Tiago Forte included it on the same podcast among his top mainstream science fiction recommendations. Additionally, a Timcast IRL super chat sparked a brief discussion praising the overarching seven-book series, and Dan Kokotov hailed the novel on the Lex Fridman Podcast as the greatest science fiction book of all time.
