His grand book is called bloodlands it's long and intense but it's very very very beautifully and and clearly written and if you can you know if you can stomach a book about the wars of the 20th century you'll learn a ton about geopolitics and the region in the process.
The guy who wrote Bloodlands, which is a great book about the genocide in primarily like East or in like Ukraine and Poland, will point out that the areas in which the Jewish communities were most thoroughly destroyed were places that had suffered what he called double state destruction.
Bloodlands is another book I've been really recently reading about it and the ability of humans to convince they're doing good when they're clearly murdering and torturing people in front of their eyes is fascinating.
