Ricky Donnell Freeway Rick Ross is an American author and former drug lord best known for the drug empire he established in Los Angeles, California, in the early to mid 1980s. He was sentenced to life in prison, though the sentence was shortened on appeal and Ross was released in 2009. During appearances on The Joe Rogan Experience and The Jordan Harbinger Show, Ross discussed and recommended books that fundamentally shifted his perspective while he was incarcerated. He frequently cited Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich as a mind-blowing book that opened his eyes and built his mindset. Alongside Hill's work, Ross named George S. Clason's The Richest Man in Babylon and James Allen's As a Man Thinketh as his favorite trio of books that helped shape his principles, change his mindset, and realize his potential while serving time in prison. Beyond these personal recommendations, Ross mentioned reading Michael C. Ruppert's book Crossing the Rubicon and discussed investigative reporter Gary Webb's book Dark Alliance. Regarding the latter, Ross explained that the book featured his life and noted that the popular phrase every day I'm hustling originated from the accounts documented within Webb's work.
