You know, my Bonhoeffer book, which is a 600-page biography of a German pastor who saw these things happening and knew that he must speak out against it.
In this segment, Eric Metaxas discusses his biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, highlighting its thorough examination of the life of a German pastor who spoke out against significant moral issues of his time.
The reason I wrote it, in a nutshell, is that in 2010, I came out with my longest book, a biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German pastor who was involved in the plot to kill Hitler.
Eric Metaxas explains his motivation for writing his latest book by referencing a previous book he authored about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German pastor who played a role in the plot to assassinate Hitler.
It was impossible for me to avoid the thought that just as the silence of the church in Germany opened the door to hell on Earth, which we now know because we know what happened, and of course, I documented it in my Bonhoeffer book and in this new booklet to the American church.
In this segment, Eric Metaxas reflects on the silence of the church in Germany and how it led to dire consequences. He mentions the research he conducted for his book on Bonhoeffer to support his arguments in 'A Letter to the American Church'.

Letter to the American Church

But the thesis of this book, A Letter to the American Church, is that precisely as the German church was silent, and precisely as that opened the door to hell to every kind of evil, it is the silence of the church in America now that is similarly opening the door to hellish things on a number of fronts.
In this segment, Eric Metaxas discusses the thesis of his book, 'A Letter to the American Church', highlighting the parallels between the silence of the American church today and that of the German church during Hitler's rise, suggesting that this silence is similarly allowing evil to flourish.
But I'm talking in this last book, Letter to the American Church, specifically to those who already claim to believe this, and I say, listen, if you believe this, you're on the hook for actually leading the way in showing people what courage looks like, in showing people that no, there is this thing called truth, and we are made to speak truth and to act truth.
Eric Metaxas addresses his audience regarding his book, 'Letter to the American Church,' emphasizing that it is aimed at those who profess to be Christian and encourages them to lead by example in demonstrating courage and truth.
In the course of writing my new book, the shortest book, 'Letter to the American Church,' I came to the conclusion that as horrific as it is to think about what the silence of the German church led to, the silence of the American church now, if we do not repent and begin to speak out boldly against every one of these things, the result will be worse, even if possible, than what happened in the Holocaust.
During a discussion about his latest book, 'Letter to the American Church,' Eric Metaxas reflects on the dangers of silence within the church. He draws parallels between historical events and warns that failing to speak out against current issues could lead to results even worse than those seen during the Holocaust.
One of the theses of my book, A Letter to the American Church, is that just as the German church drifted tragically in its conception of what is faith, so too the American church has drifted.
Eric Metaxas discusses his book 'A Letter to the American Church', which argues that both the German church and the American church have strayed in their understanding of faith.
And that's why in A Letter to the American Church, I'm writing specifically to those people, Christians who claim to believe in the God of the Bible, to believe that Jesus defeated death on the cross.
Eric Metaxas mentions that 'A Letter to the American Church' is authored for Christians, focusing on their beliefs about the God of the Bible and the message of Jesus's victory over death.
But as I say, it kind of became pointed with A Letter to the American Church because of the seriousness of what I was writing.
Eric Metaxas discusses how the gravity of the themes in 'A Letter to the American Church' inspired him deeply as he wrote.
The only time I felt something more palpable of God's inspiration was in writing A Letter to the American Church.
Eric Metaxas shares that writing 'A Letter to the American Church' was when he experienced the most profound sense of divine inspiration.
We discuss his most recent book, A Letter to the American Church, which argues that it's a betrayal of faith to stay silent in the face of tyranny.

It was impossible for me to avoid the thought that just as the silence of the church in Germany opened the door to hell on Earth, which we now know because we know what happened, and of course, I documented it in my Bonhoeffer book and in this new booklet to the American church.

I don't mean this in any mystical sense, but I was very sober-minded about writing something with the title A Letter to the American Church.
In this excerpt, Eric Metaxas explains his thoughtful approach to writing 'A Letter to the American Church'.
You know, if you think of the title A Letter to the American Church, it would be natural to think what kind of hubris are we talking about here, that somebody would dare to write a letter to the American church as though he's a modern-day Paul or something like that.
In this segment, Eric Metaxas discusses the title of his book, A Letter to the American Church, and reflects on how some may perceive it as a bold move, akin to that of a modern-day Paul writing to the church.
I don't know how some people will take this, but I've never felt that God called me to write something the way He did this book.
Eric Metaxas discusses the compelling inspiration he felt from God to write the book, sharing his personal experience and the significance of this calling.
This most recent book, which is my shortest book, A Letter to the American Church, is the first time I have ever written something specifically only for those who claim to be Christians.
In this segment, Eric Metaxas discusses his book, 'A Letter to the American Church,' describing it as the first book he has specifically written for Christians and noting that it is his shortest.

So I thought to myself that idea, Bonhoeffer wrote a book, The Cost of Discipleship, where he famously talks about cheap grace, because the excuse given by the German theologians and pastors at the time was that, 'Well, it's all about grace; it's less about what we do.'
Eric Metaxas discusses Dietrich Bonhoeffer's book 'The Cost of Discipleship', which explores the concept of cheap grace and its implications.
