Why people recommend it
With God in Russia by Walter Ciszek is a spiritual memoir chronicling the author's decades of imprisonment and clandestine ministry in the Soviet Union. On The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast, Bishop Robert Barron mentioned the book during the episode 162. Christianity and the Modern World. He brought up the volume to share the remarkable account of Walter Ciszek's imprisonment and faith in the Soviet system. Bishop Barron noted that Ciszek described his harrowing experiences within the book in a bold and straightforward manner. The recommendation highlights the resilience of the human spirit and the steadfastness of religious faith under severe state oppression. Listeners interested in biographical accounts of endurance, faith under fire, and twentieth-century church history often find this work particularly compelling. The text serves as both a historical document of the Cold War era and a profound testament to spiritual survival in the face of overwhelming hostility from an atheistic regime.
