Why people recommend it
Totto-chan, the Little Girl at the Window: The Sequel by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi is a heartwarming biographical work that continues the charming narrative of unconventional childhood education and personal growth. On the podcast The Daily Stoic, during the episode 7 Stoic Lessons From An Abandoned Ghost Town (Cerro Gordo) published on February 6, 2022, Ryan Holiday discussed the book. Holiday mentioned that he happened to find a copy of Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window sitting on a bookshelf located at Cerro Gordo. He explained that it stands as one of his absolute favorite books of all time and noted that he had actually reread it just a couple of years prior to the recording. Furthermore, Holiday connected the volume to a specific personal memento mori story that consistently comes to his mind every single time he touches or thinks about the book. He also mentioned to his listeners that copies of the work are regularly stocked and sold at his own bookstore. Through these remarks, Holiday conveyed a deep personal attachment to Kuroyanagi's writing, using the discovery of the book in an abandoned ghost town setting to reflect on memory, mortality, and the enduring impact of cherished literary works on his own life and philosophy.
