Why people recommend it
Three Worlds is a memoir by Israeli historian Avi Shlaim that chronicles his life and the history of coexistence for Jews in Iraq and the broader Arab world. On an episode of The Jordan Harbinger Show titled Why This Son of an Israeli General is Pro-Palestine released on December 7, 2023, guest Miko Peled discussed the region and enthusiastically recommended that listeners pick up the book. Peled highlighted the text while reflecting on the rich historical relationships and identities of Arab Jews originating from places like Iraq. By bringing attention to Shlaim's work, Peled offered the audience a personal and historical lens into a complex past where Jewish and Arab communities lived intertwined lives before the massive geopolitical shifts of the twentieth century. The recommendation served to ground the conversation in documented historical experiences that challenge monolithic narratives about Jewish and Arab relations in the Middle East, making the memoir an essential resource for those seeking a deeper understanding of the region's intricate cultural and political heritage.
