Specifically I know I bring it up a lot, but I know you guys enjoy this conversation to Russell Tar to third eye spies author and person who is involved in some of those very programs with the government for training psychic spies.
Why people recommend it
Third Eye Spies by Russell Targ is a non-fiction book exploring the history and reality of government-sponsored psychic espionage programs developed during the Cold War. Ben Bowlin frequently mentioned the book on the podcast Stuff They Don't Want You To Know. During a listener mail episode in June 2025, Bowlin remarked that he often brings up the title because listeners enjoy conversations about Russell Targ, the author who was personally involved in those exact government programs designed to train psychic spies. Months earlier, in August 2024, Bowlin referenced the book again while discussing an interview the podcast previously conducted with Targ. He emphasized that the publication details a literal program operated by the Central Intelligence Agency that Targ personally helped design. Across these discussions, Bowlin utilized the book to highlight the fascinating intersection of science, government secrecy, and the unknown, continually pointing to Targ's firsthand participation in psychic research initiatives that pushed the boundaries of conventional intelligence operations and military exploration during a tense historical era.
