Anyway, so Karen had been dropping hints over the last couple years that she'd been working on this big major novel for years and it's finally here and it's coming out in September and this is called The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny.
Why people recommend it
The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny is a major, highly anticipated novel by Kiran Desai that explores complex personal and social themes. Dwight Garner strongly advocated for the book on The Book Review during an episode broadcast on December 12, 2025, asserting emphatically that the novel fully deserved to win both the Booker Prize and the National Book Award for its literary achievements. Earlier in the year, Gilbert Cruz also discussed the release on the podcast during a September 5, 2025 episode dedicated to notable fall publications. Gilbert Cruz noted that the author had spent years dropping hints about working on this major project, and he expressed enthusiasm that the long-awaited novel had finally arrived. Together, the critics highlighted the immense anticipation surrounding the book and its significant impact on the literary landscape, cementing its status as one of the most talked-about and critically acclaimed works of fiction published that year.
