Why people recommend it
The CIA by William Blum explores the history and operations of the United States Central Intelligence Agency through a critical investigative lens. On the podcast Stuff They Don't Want You To Know, Ben Bowlin discussed the title during the episode titled Yes, The CIA Hired Magicians, Chapter One: The Craft and The Art, which aired on February 20, 2025. While discussing intelligence agency histories and covert actions, Bowlin told listeners that if they enjoyed deep dive books concerning these sensitive subjects, they should also peruse other works by the author. Specifically, he recommended checking out Killing Hope: US Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II by William Blum, alongside Legacy of Ashes by Tim Weiner. Bowlin framed these texts as essential reading for anyone seeking a more comprehensive understanding of geopolitical interventions and intelligence agency operations throughout modern history. His recommendation aimed to guide curious audiences toward thoroughly researched historical accounts that examine the broader consequences of foreign policy decisions and clandestine governmental activities carried out over several decades.
