Why people recommend it
Rattling the Cages by Josh Davidson is a powerful and revealing collection of oral histories documenting the experiences of North American political prisoners. On Behind the Bastards in an episode titled It Could Happen Here Weekly 167 broadcast on February 1, 2025, Margaret Killjoy discussed the book while introducing the background of Eric, who served as a co-editor for the project. Killjoy highlighted the publication not only for its critical documentation of political imprisonment in North America but also because it features a notable foreword written by Angela Davis. She explicitly endorsed the work for listeners, encouraging them to pick up a copy and explore the personal narratives contained within its pages. The book serves as an important resource for understanding the human impact of political dissent and the justice system, preserving the voices and lived experiences of individuals who have faced incarceration for their political beliefs and actions. Through this mention, the podcast brought wider attention to the struggles of political prisoners and the literary efforts dedicated to sharing their stories with the broader public.

“And do you want to talk about your book? So rattling the cages is out right now. It's with AK press and it is a oral history of the political prisoner movement hold from the mouths of those prisoners. It covers like 50 or so prisoners”
