Why people recommend it

Rage by Stephen King is a controversial psychological thriller originally published under the author's pseudonym Richard Bachman, following a troubled high school student who holds his classroom hostage. The novel has garnered significant attention regarding censorship and real-world violence. On The Book Review, Sean Fennessey brought up Rage while listing the various novels published under Stephen King's Richard Bachman pseudonym, noting that it had never been made into a movie and was difficult to find because the author ultimately did not want that specific book out in the world. Ben Bowlin also discussed the novel across multiple episodes of Stuff They Don't Want You To Know. During one episode, Bowlin brought up Rage to illustrate how fiction can emulate real-world concerns and how dangerous information might be exploited by bad-faith actors. In another episode, Bowlin discussed how Stephen King voluntarily pulled the novel from publication of his own accord due to growing concerns surrounding school shootings and copycat incidents. These discussions collectively examine the complex intersection of literature, real-world tragedies, and an author's decision to suppress their own work.
