Why people recommend it

'Pathfinders' by JL Collins is a financial independence guide that shares the extraordinary stories of everyday people on their quests to achieve financial freedom. The book was featured prominently on 'ChooseFI' in November 2023, where Brad Barrett introduced it as a companion or sequel to Collins's earlier work, 'The Simple Path to Wealth'. Barrett praised the volume for offering fundamental, valuable stories that make abstract financial concepts accessible, ultimately recommending it directly to the audience at the conclusion of the episode. Jonathan, the host of 'ChooseFI', also previously noted that Collins's books are among the first he recommends to individuals beginning their financial independence journey. Later, in January 2026, Steven Bartlett endorsed 'Pathfinders' on 'The Diary Of A CEO', advising his listeners to pick up a copy alongside Collins's other writings and cautionary tales on real estate. Throughout these podcast appearances, speakers emphasized that the volume serves as an essential companion piece to traditional wealth-building literature, validating the personal experiences of ordinary investors and illustrating practical paths toward early retirement and monetary self-reliance through engaging narrative examples.

“and you had a Princess Bride reference in Pathfinders and I think there's another one that logically comes up and I'll probably butcher it but it's I don't think that word means what you think it means”
