Why people recommend it
Oprah by Kitty Kelley is an unauthorized biographical work that investigates the personal and professional life of media mogul Oprah Winfrey. Robert Evans utilized the biography extensively as a primary source across a multi-part series on Behind the Bastards dedicated to examining Oprah's background and public persona. During these episodes, Evans cited Kitty Kelley's book to provide historical context and contrasting accounts regarding Oprah's early life. Specifically, he referenced a passage based on conversations with former colleague Patty Outlaw to illustrate the tumultuous and drug-filled atmosphere present at a local television station where Oprah worked early in her career. Additionally, Evans drew from the biography to present conflicting family recollections concerning the living conditions and hardships Oprah faced during her childhood. By leaning on Kelley's research, Evans constructed a detailed narrative about the complexities of Winfrey's rise to fame, presenting the biography as a crucial investigative resource for understanding the television icon's trajectory.
