So I picked up a favorite book of mine which I haven't read in like seven years but I used to read it every year uh it's Zoe hel's notes on a scandal which was made into a very good movie but the book is just Sublime.

Why people recommend it

Notes on a Scandal by Zoë Heller is a dark, suspenseful psychological novel that examines obsession, manipulation, and the complex dynamics of female friendship and isolation. Parul Sehgal enthusiastically recommended the book on The Book Review, describing it as an absolute favorite and a sublime read that she used to revisit annually as a palate cleanser, while also noting its successful film adaptation. John Williams also discussed the novel on the same podcast, connecting its narrative opening regarding an illicit affair with a professor to other literary works that explore similar transgressive relationships. Additionally, Matt Rogers mentioned reading another book for research purposes on Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang. Heller's novel remains widely praised for its sharp, uncompromising prose and its unflinching portrayal of unreliable narrators and moral ambiguity. The commentators highlighted the enduring appeal of the book's biting psychological insights, dark humor, and gripping plot twists, cementing its status as a modern classic of psychological suspense that continues to captivate readers and critics alike with its brilliant exploration of the human shadow.
