And one book in particular that was more recent was "Maus," which is like a Seminole graphic novel about what Jews went through during the Holocaust. And it's amazing book and I highly recommend it.

Go buy Maus, the graphic novel. You will just keep it forever. Unbelievable.
Jason Calacanis This Week in Startups · Apr 2026 Maus is very graphic. I've read that book, it's incredible. I would recommend it for maybe seventh or eighth grade.
Jason Calacanis This Week in Startups · Sep 2022 I I mean I've heard of Art Spiegelman, but I really don't know anything about him, so I didn't know that. But I know the name. I've not read Mouse, but I know it's like it's like a like a just a legendary graphic novel um about fascism, but that guy helped create Garbage Pale Kids, just a couple years.

Why people recommend it
Maus I: A Survivor's Tale by Art Spiegelman is a landmark graphic novel that uses animal allegories to portray the horrors of the Holocaust and a father's survival story. On This Week in Startups, Jason Calacanis strongly recommended the graphic novel, praising it while identifying the author as the father of a New Yorker editor, and later reiterating his purchase recommendation during off-duty segment recaps. Calacanis also discussed the book in a separate episode while debating age-appropriate material for school reading lists, stating he admired the work but felt it suited older students. Rich Roll similarly recommended the book on The Rich Roll Podcast during a conversation regarding free speech and book banning controversies, calling it an amazing foundational graphic novel. Other podcast hosts discussed the title in different contexts; Josh Clark mentioned the book on Stuff You Should Know while noting Spiegelman's involvement in creating Garbage Pail Kids and later referenced his insights regarding Charles Schulz's Peanuts. Tim Pool and his guests touched on the book during Timcast IRL when discussing imagery where cats represent Hitler and mice represent Jewish people, while Hillary Chute discussed the release of the first volume on The Book Review. Across these episodes, speakers celebrated the work's historical importance and artistic innovation.
