Why people recommend it
Invention of Lying, The by Ricky Gervais is a comedy film depicting a fictional reality where human beings lack the capacity to lie and must speak absolute, sometimes brutally harsh truths. Jordan Harbinger brought up the movie on The Jordan Harbinger Show in March 2023 to draw a direct parallel between its unusual premise and the daily experiences of a guest who worked as an undercover cop infiltrating dangerous gangs in the United Kingdom. Similarly, Tim Pool referenced the movie on Timcast IRL in January 2023 while discussing news coverage and societal reactions surrounding public footage releases. Years prior, in April 2020, Pool also mentioned the film on his show, praising it as a great piece of entertainment while using its premise to launch an analogy about how difficult it can be for people to accept harsh realities in everyday life. Across these podcast appearances, the film was consistently highlighted for its unique concept of a truth-bound society, making it a convenient storytelling touchstone for conversations involving deception, undercover operations, and difficult public truths.
