Goddess of the Market by Jennifer Burns is a comprehensive intellectual biography examining the life, philosophy, and enduring influence of Ayn Rand within the context of the American right. On an episode of Conversations with Tyler in November 2023, Tyler Cowen engaged with the author and expressed deep admiration for this earlier biographical work. Cowen explicitly praised the publication, noting that he liked the book very much for its rigorous examination of how Objectivism and Rand's broader ideological framework shaped conservative political thought in the United States. The conversation highlighted the author's ability to contextualize complex economic and philosophical ideas within a compelling historical narrative that traces the rise of modern libertarianism and free-market capitalism. Cowen's endorsement underscored the book's value as an essential resource for understanding the intellectual undercurrents of contemporary political debates, offering a balanced and thoroughly researched perspective on one of the twentieth century's most polarizing and influential thinkers. The discussion reflected on the lasting imprint of Rand's work on generations of economists, politicians, and cultural commentators across the political spectrum.
