I feel like a many people are aware of Ghost Story, which is a wonderful novel. If you had one or two other recommendations for books that people should check out by Peter Stra that maybe they haven't gotten to yet, what are they? My favorite book of his is a long novel called Floating Dragon.
The best things said about it
Well, I read Ghost Story and some of his short fiction before I started to try and get his voice.
Stephen King The Book Review · Oct 2026 Why people recommend it
Ghost Story by Peter Straub is a classic horror novel that follows a group of elderly men haunted by a terrifying secret from their past. The book was highlighted on an episode of The Book Review podcast in October 2026 during a conversation between Gilbert Cruz and legendary author Stephen King. Cruz praised Ghost Story as a wonderful novel and asked King to suggest other lesser-known works by Straub, which prompted King to mention Floating Dragon. Earlier in the discussion, King also shared how he had read Ghost Story and other short fiction by Straub in the early stages of his own career to help shape and find his unique writing voice. The exchange shed light on the profound literary influence Straub held over his contemporaries and celebrated Ghost Story as a benchmark of atmospheric horror fiction that continues to captivate readers and inspire fellow masters of the genre alike.
