Why people recommend it
End of Watch by Stephen King is the final installment in the author's Bill Hodges detective trilogy centering on a retired police officer. On The Book Review in July 2024, author Stephen King discussed the origins of the narrative, noting that he had no initial intention of turning the story into a three-part series when he began writing the earlier volumes, which included Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers. During the same podcast episode, host John Williams mentioned that the novel had newly claimed the number one position on the bestseller list, highlighting the conclusion of the detective series featuring the retired cop Bill Hodges. Separately, in an earlier 2015 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, guest Michael A. Wood, Jr. referenced the film adaptation of End of Watch while discussing the internal dangers within police forces, noting cautions about paying attention to the actions of fellow officers rather than solely focusing on the street environment. Across these discussions, the book was recognized as the capstone to King's popular crime fiction trilogy.
