Why people recommend it
Elephants Are Not Birds is a children's book by Ashley St. Clair that addresses themes of gender reality and identity through a simple fable. Kirk Cameron mentioned the book on an episode of Timcast IRL in February 2024, praising it as a great resource that addresses gender reality and noting how much he loved its message. Tim Castle also brought up the children's book on a later episode of Timcast IRL in January 2026, highlighting the publication by Brave Books while discussing cultural shifts, parental rights, and ongoing societal controversies. Both hosts used the book to enter into broader culture-war discussions concerning traditional values, biological reality, and the literature available to young children in contemporary libraries and schools. The mentions on the podcast reflected deep divisions over how children's media approaches complex social topics, with the speakers positioning the book as a necessary pushback against prevailing cultural trends. Through these discussions, the podcast highlighted the intersection of children's publishing, political activism, and ideological battles over education and upbringing in modern society.
