Why people recommend it
Eight Billion Genies Deluxe Edition Vol. 1 by Charles Soule and Ryan Browne is an imaginative comic book series that explores the chaotic consequences when every single human on Earth simultaneously receives a single wish. Ben Bowlin discussed this comic on an episode of Stuff They Don't Want You To Know titled Is AI coming for you?, which was published in January 2023. During a segment exploring the implications of prompts, technological development, and unintended consequences, Bowlin paused to offer a enthusiastic shout-out to the publication. He noted that he had been actively reading the amazing comic book series and strongly encouraged the podcast audience to check it out for themselves, deliberately avoiding any narrative spoilers. The premise examines a surreal world where eight billion individual wishes are granted at once, leading to immediate global transformation and societal collapse or restructuring. Bowlin's reference to the comic served as a creative, narrative parallel to the episode's broader discussions regarding powerful new tools, unanticipated outcomes, and humanity's propensity to alter reality without fully grasping the long-term ramifications. Through this recommendation, listeners were directed toward a thought-provoking work of graphic fiction that blends humor, existential philosophy, and high-concept science fiction storytelling.
