There you go, "A Billion Years." - Oh, "A Billion Years." - It really is a fantastic book, 'cause Lex, the guy was born and raised in Scientology and worked personally with L. Ron Hubbard and worked personally with David Miscavige for decades, like doesn't get much more insider than that.
Why people recommend it
A Billion Years: My Escape from a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology by Mike Rinder is a memoir detailing the author's upbringing in the organization and his decades-long career working closely with its leadership. Aaron Smith-Levin recommended the book on an episode of the Lex Fridman Podcast in February 2023, calling it a fantastic inside account because the author was born and raised in Scientology and worked personally with L. Ron Hubbard and David Miscavige. Megyn Kelly also enthusiastically recommended the memoir at the end of an episode of The Megyn Kelly Show in September 2022, praising the author for his fearlessness in telling his story and urging listeners to purchase the book. Earlier in that same episode, Kelly introduced the memoir by noting that it detailed incredible stories involving prominent celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, and John Travolta, as well as an account of an attempt to recruit Michael Jackson into the church. Through these podcast discussions, the hosts highlighted the unprecedented insider perspective provided by the memoir, offering audiences a rare and revealing look into the secretive hierarchy and inner workings of the organization.
