But yo, somebody sent me a book, and I ended up getting this book called The Black Poets, and it changed my life. The first poem I read by Etheridge Knight was called 'For Freckle Face Gerald'โ€”it had a line in it that says 16 years hadn't done a good job on his voiceโ€”and it talked about how the 160 okay ends up in prison and ends up being raped, and I'm reading this poem, and it's people that are dealing with this in the prison that I'm locked up in right.

During the podcast, Reginald Dwayne Betts shares how 'The Black Poets' profoundly impacted him while he was in solitary confinement, highlighting the emotional resonance of a poem by Etheridge Knight.
